The Hindenburg Cross was the first award to be instituted during the Third Reich on 13th July 1934 and came in three classes. The Cross of Honor for frontline soldiers (Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer) was awarded only for the military personnel of the Imperial Army and Navy who had engaged the enemy in frontline combat.
